Services
From insight to practice.
Our advisory work grows out of our research. The Exempt Accommodation Project leads, alongside case-law based Housing Benefit advice, our work on SHROA, and board briefings, training and speaking.
Flagship
The Exempt Accommodation Project
A community of good practice and a subsidy recovery mechanism in one. We broker leases and management agreements between approved supported housing providers and registered providers, so councils can fully recover the Housing Benefit they pay, and residents get better, more accountable services.
Core service
Enhanced Housing Benefit & intensive housing management
We build and review enhanced Housing Benefit claims using a forensic model that breaks each claim down to the penny per week per resident, with the intensive housing management and maintenance activity that justifies it. We keep a non-adversarial approach with Revenues and Benefits colleagues, and help councils reduce subsidy loss.
- New claims, rent reviews and claims under challenge
- Evidence aligned with the DWP Housing Benefit Guidance for Supported Housing Claims
- Case-law based positions on care, support or supervision and the “more than minimal” threshold
Fees: usually factored transparently into the revised claim, so the work is effectively cost-neutral to you.
Regulation & governance
SHROA, licensing and standards
Advice for boards, senior teams and councils on the Supported Housing (Regulatory Oversight) Act, licensing, the National Supported Housing Standards and the fit and proper person test. We help you understand where you stand, where the risks sit and what to prioritise.
Learning & influence
Board briefings, training and speaking
Board and senior management briefings on any aspect of supported and sheltered housing finance, policy and operations. Public events and tailor-made sessions, virtual or face to face. Conference keynotes, panels, and coordination of sector responses to government consultations.
Health & capital
Specialised supported housing, the NHS and social investment
Capital, revenue, policy and development advice on specialised supported housing, including its place within Integrated Care Board structures. We also work with private capital providers who have a genuine social commitment to new supported housing.
Who we work with. We work only with organisations approved as supported housing providers by their local authority. We do not help newly established providers seek that approval.
